Young Talents for Hanseatic Music

The EU-funded Young Talents for Hanseatic Music (YTHM) project gives young musicians the opportunity to further develop their skills in vocal and instrumental ensemble music from around 1600, known as the Hanseatic period.

In this project, which is a cooperation between Orlando e.V., Göteborg International Organ Academy and Stichting Groningen Orgelstad, young musicians from all over Europe are invited to apply for a series of masterclasses given by today’s leading musicians (in September 2025 and 2026). From the participants who particularly excel in the masterclasses, an approximately 15-member European Hanseatic Ensemble will be formed for a concert tour in the following year (in 2026 and 2027).

Unique to this project is its focus on large pipe organs being part of the ensemble, as was common practice in the 1600’s. There are only a few places in Europe where these particular ensemble organs can be found, and where it is still possible for musicians and audiences to immerse themselves in this fascinating world of sound. The concert tour will include two such venues, in Göteborg and Groningen.
